Spend Time in Wonderful San Diego

If you’re traveling to San Diego for a professional conference, you’re already setting yourself up for a productive and insightful experience. San Diego has great weather all year round. The Convention Center is located not only on the water, but also close to downtown. Even the airport isn’t far away.

But what if you could amplify the benefits of your trip by adding a few personal days before or after the event? Taking extra time to explore the city, recharge, and reflect could be the key to balancing professional growth with personal wellbeing.

Here’s why adding personal days to your conference schedule in San Diego is a smart move—and how this incredible destination sets the stage for a memorable experience.

Prioritize Your Wellbeing with a Change of Pace

Conferences can be intense, with packed schedules, networking sessions, and hours spent indoors. Adding personal days gives you the opportunity to decompress, reset your mind, and maintain your wellbeing. San Diego’s relaxed vibe and sunny weather provide the perfect environment to:

  • De-stress by the ocean: Spend time walking along the beaches of La Jolla or Coronado, listening to the soothing sound of waves. It is so easy to catch the ferry across to Coronado. The landing has food venues to sit and look back across to the city view. Downtown Coronado is an easy walk, or an Uber ride (if you don’t want to wait for a bus). And the Hotel Del offers you plenty to do.
  • Stay active outdoors: Enjoy the miles of scenic trails in Torrey Pines State Reserve or a leisurely stroll along the Embarcadero. The Embarcadero is great to walk along, hosting museums, shops and more eateries. You can be by the water, watch the boats moving on the water, see the planes coming and going from the airport and, if you’re lucky, get to see an ocean liner dock in Port. There are also parks to sit and watch people pass by.
  • Unwind in nature: Visit Balboa Park, a cultural haven with lush gardens, museums, and the iconic San Diego Zoo. There are so many different things to see and do in Balboa Park, no matter what your interests. If all you want to do is be in the outdoors and look at plants, the gardens are wonderful. For art and culture lovers there are buildings and museums and great tours too. Balboa Park is one of San Diego’s hidden gems. Not many people realize how vast and wonderful it is.

Explore San Diego’s Culinary and Nightlife Scene

San Diego is a treasure trove of culinary delights and vibrant nightlife. Whether you’re a foodie or someone who enjoys a good cocktail, the city has plenty to offer:

  • Indulge in local flavors: Savor the freshest seafood, innovative cuisine, and craft beer from one of San Diego’s many breweries. Little Italy has a variety of craft breweries, or wine bars to taste not only local but international wines. Let’s talk about the wine and what you like drinking to match your taste with a wine bar. And did we mention there are so many different restaurants to try, you will have a list and won’t get the chance to try them all during only one visit.
  • Experience Gaslamp Quarter nightlife: Discover rooftop bars, live music venues, and charming speakeasies in this buzzing downtown district. There are lots of unique experiences to be had with carousel bars, or hidden bars that are fun to find. We have it all in downtown San Diego.
  • Taste world-class coffee: Kick off your mornings with a cup of locally roasted coffee from one of San Diego’s artisanal cafes. Our local coffee roasters pride themselves on the flavors they offer. Pair your coffee with great food and you can’t go wrong.

Fuel Creativity and Inspiration

San Diego’s mix of natural beauty and cultural attractions can reignite your creativity and give you a fresh perspective. Take the time to:

  • Visit art and history museums: Explore the many museums in Balboa Park or the USS Midway Museum. Visiting somewhere like the Midway Museum can take your mind off your everyday work life and fascinate you. The docents are from the Navy and Airforce, so you get first hand experiences of how the ship operated. That is very different to the day to day of the corporate world.
  • Discover vibrant neighborhoods: Stroll through Little Italy, North Park, or Old Town to soak in the local charm. I’m biased to Little Italy, as it’s my local neighborhood. We have such a beautiful space, with friendly people, great food, drinks and fun. There is nothing like sitting in the Piazza, enjoying a local band, eating your freshly cooked food.
  • Take in ocean views: Catch a sunset at Sunset Cliffs or enjoy the breathtaking views from Cabrillo National Monument. An Uber or Lyft away from downtown, but well worth the visit. Although anywhere along the Pacific ocean cliffs is an experience not to be missed. Even simply strolling along with cliff tops in Del Mar at sunset is breathtaking.

Build Lasting Memories—And Connections

Adding personal days can also help you build stronger connections with colleagues or friends who may be traveling with you. Sharing downtime outside of a professional setting often leads to more meaningful relationships. Alternatively, if you’re traveling solo, use this time to connect with locals and immerse yourself in the city’s culture.

We are a friendly and welcoming city.
