Have you ever done something, or been somewhere that left a truly lasting memory?
For me, that was my very first Virgin Voyages experience. I was a bit terrified as it was my very first cruise. I had no idea what to expect, yet there was also excitement at what I had learned about.
As a Travel Advisor we can choose to learn in depth information about a brand, or a supplier that we work with. I jumped at the change to become a Virgin Voyages specialist because having lived in Australia most of my life, I was very aware of the ‘Virgin’ brand.
What I knew about the Virgin brand was that it was customer focused and always offered good value for money. I was at a travel conference and saw the Virgin Voyages team. My first question to them was “Are you apart of Virgin?” They knew what I meant by that question and the response was “Yes.”
That’s when I knew I needed to learn more about this cruise line.
They were relatively new to the market at that time and so it was great to be a part of learning and watching the brand grow at the same time.
The Virgin Adults Only Experience
I enjoyed that very first cruise so much that I wrote an entire blog article about it. The memory of that cruise has stuck with me even more than a year on. When I got back from the cruise I raved about it to my friends, who then booked their first cruise in the Med. That was a longer cruise, but they too had a wonderful time.

The thing that stands out for me about the Virgin Voyage experience is that it is Adults Only. That is something uncommon in the ocean cruise segment. Many of the other cruise lines have beautiful ships, especially those with newer fleet, like Virgin. Most of them allow children onboard, which means you can’t have a truly adults only experience.
Don’t get me wrong, I love children. It is just that as a parent or parents, there are times when you would love to get away and not have to think about or hear children. It means you can have a romantic get away or a fun get away, just for the two of you.
No Age Barriers
The unusual thing about this Adults only experience is that it truly is for all ages. There are fun things to do for the party goers and younger members of the adult sect. For the mid range sailors, there are great activities and lots of amazing dining experiences that means those adults have fun too, just in a different way.
For the more ‘senior’ set, there are great things to do that mean they get to have fun too. So there really is no age limit for a Virgin Voyage, as long as you want to experience a quality, different experience.
Do you have to dress formally for dinner? No, that is definitely not a requirement. Will there be well known Broadway style entertainment? No, there won’t be. The entertainment is edgy and unique and yet artistic and enjoyable. Virgin has different entertainment on each ship, so if you go on more than one of the Virgin ships, sailing the different itineraries, you will have a new experience.
As someone in their 60’s I loved the entertainment. I also had super fun at karaoke and the quiz sessions. I didn’t stay up partying all night, because that’s not be. Yet I still had a great fun time on my cruise.
Today, on an information session for Travel Advisors we were told the entertainment is being changed up, so it will be fun to see what new items are on each ships list.
Don’t Be Afraid To Try a Virgin Voyage
For anyone that has not ever been on a cruise, I would highly recommend a Virgin Voyage as a taster. They have wonderful 4 and 5 day itineraries to give you a taste of what ocean cruising is like. Mind you, you are on a large ship but one that only has 2700 passengers, so you won’t feel like you are a sardine in a can.
For those who have cruised before, give Virgin a try. You might be surprised at how much you love the experience. The food is one of the best things about the cruise, aside from the all inclusive nature. Even the ships menus are getting a refresh soon, according to the Virgin Voyages team. Service is second to none, so you will feel taken care of.
